In his first public statement since the City Council’s Monday evening vote, Michael Karagozian, owner of the Culver City Ice Arena, just designated an historical site, saw dark and shadowy motives inside the engineering of the decision.

“The building is over 50 years old, decrepit and worn,” he told the newspaper this afternoon.

What makes it worthy of a historical stamp? he wonders.

“They must think I am a hick from Fresno,” he said of the newly approved historical ranking that complicates his plans he may have for the structure or the land.

Mr. Karagozian, who sat near the front of Council Chambers on Monday, had considered addressing the Council in an overwhelmingly pro-rink setting. He decided against it.
