There will be four contenders in the April 8 race for two City Council seats, Christopher Patrick King, newcomer, said this afternoon.

With Monday’s 5:30 p.m. filing deadline in sight, Mr. King, mortgage company owner, promised to meet it with hours to spare.

The King entourage is scheduled to enter City Clerk Martin Cole’s domain at 1 o’clock on Monday.

“We are finishing up last-minute work in the office today,” he said, including translating his ballot statement into Japanese and Hindi.

Mr. King not only is a fresh face but a youthful one.

Of his two leading opponents, Mayor Jeff Cooper is rocking through his 50s and Councilman Jim Clarke is romping along in his mid-60s.

This means that Mr. King, at 31, handily is young enough to be either gentleman’s son.

Five persons pulled papers, and late this afternoon Gary Abrams, usually a School Board candidate, said that he will join the field. He just took out papers this week.

Chris Sherwin, who pulled papers last month, decided earlier this week not to follow through.
