Memorial services were held yesterday at Hillside Memorial Cemetery for Kathy S. Smith, a popular, longtime community activist who had lived in Culver City for more than 30 years.

After a courageous battle with cancer and lifelong multiple sclerosis, Ms. Smith died last Thursday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

She is remembered as a loving wife and a dedicated friend.

Following a career in broadcast advertising, Ms. Smith became a passionate, effective advocate for people with disabilities, for animal rights and for other civil rights causes.

She is survived by her husband, Steve Bauer, her brother Steve Smith, her beloved nieces, and a large circle of dear friends spread throughout the world.

Ms. Smith will be remembered for her sparkling humor, her positive attitude in the face of adversity, her deep, unfailing desire for justice, her generous spirit and her warm, enthusiastic hugs.
