Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich now has two polls that show he is the clear frontrunner in the hearts and minds of voters for the March 5 primary election.

The latest poll comes from Tulchin Research: In a survey of 500 likely voters, it shows Trutanich beating former Sacramento politician Michael Feuer by a 26 to 18 percent margin in an initial vote. However, after voters are informed about the good, the bad and the ugly concerning each candidate, Trutanich trounces Feuer, 42 percent to 19 percent.

“Once voters learn about Trutanich’s impressive record as City Attorney protecting public safety and taxpayer dollars, the incumbent pulls into a commanding lead with 42 percent of the vote,” Ben Tulchin, of the polling firm wrote. “In contrast, Feuer struggles to gain traction and only picks up one point, to 19 percent, as his record as a Sacramento politician simply does not resonate with voters.

“Driving Trutanich’s rise in the polls is the City Attorney’s ability to appeal to a diverse coalition,” Tulchin said. “In conclusion, this poll demonstrates that incumbent Carmen (Nuch) Trutanich is the clear leader in the  race for City Attorney.”

The Trutanich campaign will accept the approval of the voters over the endorsement of City Hall insiders any day, said Rick Taylor, Trutanich’s chief strategist. Taylor’s remarks came after Feuer crowed about several endorsements he recently got from City Hall insiders, including Mayor Villaraigosa.

“We’re not surprised that some of City Hall’s biggest insiders have endorsed our opponent, Michael Feuer,” said Taylor. “We are the outsider.  We are the independent in this race. We are the guy who ruffles feathers, looks out for the public’s interest, not the special interests.“

Late last year, a poll by Loyola Marymount University’s Center for the Study of Los Angeles had Trutanich up 36 to 32 percent among knowledgeable voters

The voters appreciate Trutanich's record of winning for Los Angeles, said Taylor. It's a record that has protected the city's most vulnerable populations, its taxpayers and its neighborhoods.

“The only thing we've heard about Feuer's record as an attorney is frightening,” said Taylor. For more information about the LMU poll click here.
