Re “On Agency Case: Settle in. This Will Take a Few Years, Says Rose

If Gov. Brown, who wants to kill redevelopment agencies, is interested in the opinions of an eight-year member of Culver City’s agency, Steve Rose is prepared to serve a heaping platter.

“Let me tell you physically what the Redevelopment Agency has done for Culver City,” Mr. Rose began.

“Physically, the Agency has done all of the streets and sidewalks in Downtown. The agency built City Hall and turned it over to the city.

“The agency was majorly involved in two of the three fire stations, and the Ivy Substation (home to The Actors Gang).

“The first project of the Redevelopment Agency (in the early 1970s) was the old Fox Hills Mall, now Westfield Culver City.

“The agency was intimately involved in creating the Toyota Miller Honda dealership.

“They also were involved in Costco.

“Now let’s turn to the social part — the youth place in the parks and the Summer Concert Series.

“After that you go to housing. The agency is the main driver of housing, whether it is workforce housing or creating opportunities for seniors to fix up their homes. Those are all agency projects.

“Finally, every year for the last 25 or 30, the Redevelopment Agency has written a check to the School District to assist in the additional cost of what the Raintree MGM Lot 3 project was.

“This year, I believe the Agency wrote a check to the School District for a little more than $1.8 million,” Mr. Rose said.

So there.
