His intention is to succeed Assemblyperson Holly Mitchell (D-Culver City), expected to be elected to Los Angeles City Councilman Curren Price’s former state Senate seat next month.

On June 30, Mr. Ridley-Thomas officially reported having raised $102,000 for his campaign.

Mr. Ridley-Thomas said he is grateful for the tremendous support he has garnered at this stage in his campaign.

“A number of people have expressed their confidence in my ability to perform in this position of leadership for our community and our state,” he said. “My supporters’ enthusiasm has given me greater energy to work harder as my campaign progresses.

“In the weeks ahead, we look forward to engaging the people in a discussion of issues of greatest concern to them. I want to show how a new generation of leadership, coupled with serious work, can deliver desired results,” he said.

“We’ve had a strong start. I have a solid campaign team behind me. We have a lot more work to do. We have more people to reach with our message. We intend to finish strong. I plan to be successful in (Sept. 17) special election,” he added.
