Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers Union with Cesar Chavez, and Los Angeles City Council candidate Forescee Hogan-Rowles will be honored on Wednesday at the Community Financial Resource Center’s annual Power Luncheon.
The noon hour event at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion will feature KCET report/anchor Val Zavala as mistress of ceremonies.
Ms. Hogan-Rowles, locked in a tight vote-counting battle with incumbent Bernard Parks, is President and CEO of the non-profit Community Financial, and has been since 1995.
As the recipient of the Robert A. McNeely Trailblazer Award, Ms. Huerta will also serve as the luncheon’s keynote speaker.
The Robert A. McNeely Trailblazer Award is the highest award bestowed by Community Financial to a leader with vision and courage. Each year the organization recognizes an individual of brave constitution who demonstrates innovation in advancing economic and social justice for under-represented people in Los Angeles and the world.
Ms. Huerta’s lifelong journey has been working as a community organizer and social activist for over 50 years. She continues working to develop community leaders, advocating for working poor, women and children and travels daily speaking at universities or organizational forums on issues of social justice and public policy.
