Darkness and amorphousness cloud a precise answer because of the serious injuries he sustained when his car was struck on the driver’s side by a Chevy Tahoe that allegedly ran a red light, pinning Mr. Feuer inside.
The 54-year-old Mr. Feuer lies in the intensive care unit of an unnamed hospital this afternoon recovering from a pulmonary contusion, multiple rib fractures and a lacerated spleen.
The primary campaign is three months from today, March 5. In a snug race, each day and popular perceptions count heavily.
Hoping not to surrender their momentum or discourage potential influential backers, the Feuer campaign predicts the candidate will return in the short-term, although an exact date is far from knowable. However, given the extent of his injuries, medical sources estimate “six to eight weeks,” which would, of course, be devastating.
“We are hoping that he will be out of the hospital later this week,” Dave Jacobson, a spokesperson for the Feuer campaign, told the newspaper. “Mike is a fighter. As soon as he is out, he’s going to continue working on the campaign, getting his message out, building support all across the city.
“Obviously we are hoping he gets out sooner rather than later. We don’t have a specific date when he will be released, and we are waiting to get additional information from the hospital.”
Mr. Jacobson called the present time “a brief interruption.”
He said that “the campaign is not skipping a beat. We are continuing to move on. We are not taking a break at all.
“We are doing everything as planned.”
Aides continue to schedule dates on Mr. Feuer’s calendar and make plans to address groups.
How soon does Mr. Jacobson expect the candidate to resume public appearances?
“I don’t know,” he said.
“The first step is to get him out of the hospital. Then we will figure things out as we go along.”
