Re “A Birthday Vision for Culver City 97 Years Later”

City Councilman Jim Clarke, leading the charge for Culver City’s 2017 centennial celebration, arrived here 37 years ago and became a permanent resident 20 years ago.

He fell in love with the birthplace of the movies.

“I am not sure whether people are more or less interested in the history of Culver City,” Mr. Clarke said.

“But I know this: We have a historical society that is very active.  At a recent meeting, they had a presentation about the backlot of MGM, and the place was standing room only.

“The fact we have an active and vital historical society, and the people are interested enough to stand through a meeting tells me that people do care about the history of Culver City.”

This is recruiting season for the civic-minded Mr. Clarke, who is seeking volunteers for his centennial committee, people with ideas for centennial projects and those who would like to serve on certain committees.

Trying to make contact convenience, Mr. Clarke has a mailing address:

Culver City Centennial Celebration Committee

P.O. Box 4521
Culver City 90231-4521.

His special email address is culvercity100@gmail.com

Mr. Clarke’s motivation?

“I want to showcase Culver City as a vital and active community,” he says.
