The Friends of the Sandy Segal Youth Health Center will have their annual meeting on Wednesday evening at 7 in the Board Room of the School District offices, 4034 Irving Pl.

Drew Sotelo, Director of School and Family Support Services for the School District, will be the featured speaker.

He will discuss “Culver City Schools Help the Homeless and Culver Families with Need.”

Mr. Sotelo, who has been with the District for 11 years, possesses an extensive background in child and family services.  After teaching Spanish at Culver City High School, he became the school’s assistant principal for attendance, activities and discipline.   Moving to the District Office, he became assistant director for child welfare and attendance, director of pupil personnel, and now his position as the director of school and family support services.

Mr. Sotelo also is the foster youth and homeless youth liaison.

Everyone is welcome to attend the program.

Afterward, Mr. Sotelo will install the new board members of the Friends of the Sandy Segal Youth Health Center.

Current president Dr. Sarah Carpenter will again lead the board, which includes Andy Alexander and Diana Hauptman, both presidents emeritus, Sue Mitchell, Sandy Segal RN, Suzanne Wood, Michele Hindler, Bella Kopulsky RD, Pat Levinson, Joyce Perlick, and Jessica Beagles-Roos Ph.D.  Refreshments will be served after the installation.

The Friends group serves as the fundraising arm of the Health Center, which is on the campus of Culver City High School and Middle School.  Free physical and mental health services are provided to children living in Culver City or attending Culver City schools.  The nonprofit Center is supported through grants and donations.
