Teachers or students happier? Photo, Geoff Maleman.
A group of Linwood Howe Elementary students was invited last Wednesday by Leslie Adler at the Culver City Education Foundation to help harvest the vegetables in the front of the Lyfe restaurant kitchen.
From the accompanying photo, you can see how happy 14 of them were at the outing co-hosted by Lyfe and Harvest to Home.
Harvest to Home provided gift bags, with recipe cards attached, for the kids to use for the herbs and veggies after the harvest to bring home.
Laura Lee, a Linwood Howe parent, coordinated the gathering of the children for the harvest.
“This is our fall planting week through our Growing Great program,” Ms. Lee said. “Next week we start our nutrition lessons.”
The Growing Great Program is funded by the Education Foundation through a grant.
“This opportunity for the kids to harvest at Lyfe Kitchen, after learning about planting and eating healthy, whole foods at school, was such a pleasure,” Ms. Lee said.
“It ties into what they are learning at school, and they had so much fun.”
