Re: “How a LaRose Philosophy Works”
Down to the final three weeks in the search for a permanent principal of Culver City High School, Dave LaRose kidded about his reputation for thoroughness.
As with almost every task he undertakes, the School District superintendent organized a broadly diverse team to drive the search engine.
He mentioned “various interviews, screening processes” to be participated in by “obviously a large, diverse team made up of Culver City High School stakeholders.” Back in February, “we walked them through the process, and I guess the joke is, the search for a principal not only is an interview process, it is a stamina assessment
“There are lots of steps in the process to make sure we make the right decision around such a very, very, very important position.”
As for the final step in the process – prior to the Tuesday, April 28 announcement – Mr. LaRose said “it will be an interview with myself and the School Board president (Nancy Goldberg). That has been the process and the tradition here that certainly preceded me.
“It is appropriate after a very thorough application and screening process, and with a large team identifying those individuals who could move forward.
“Then those individuals who move forward would then spend time with myself and our IPLC – our Irving Place Learning Community.
“We call it our cabinet with (assistant superintendents) Mike Reynolds, Katie Krumpe and Leslie Lockhart and myself, and then myself and the Board president.
“Obviously,” said Mr. LaRose, “there is a vetting process, an assurance that we are aligned with the direction we are recommending.”
