Park Century School will break ground on its new campus at a ceremony beginning at 1:30 on Friday, at the site, 3939 Landmark St., Culver City.

The non-profit, independent, co-educational day school, founded in1968 is converting an existing 37,000-square-foot warehouse-style building into a campus that includes 11 classrooms, nine group rooms, 13 independent study rooms and a gymnasium.

In addition, internationally renowned architect Frank Gehry is serving as architectural advisor on the remodeled building, which will include a public art facade facing the street.

Learning Disabilities

“We are tremendously excited about his project,” said Genny Shain, the school’s co-director.

“This project has been many years in the making, and it will be great to welcome the community to this event.”

Park Century School is designed to meet the specific educational needs of bright children, ages 7-14, who have learning disabilities.

The new campus will include a Community Outreach Center.

Through organized instruction, seminars and research, Park Century School will act as a resource for those interested in learning more about teaching children with learning disabilities.

Taking the Next Step

Park Century works with a unique group of students and their families. “We are proud  of our track record in crafting educational strategies to meet the specific needs of each child,” said co-director Gail Spindler.

“Not only are our students successful at Park Century, when many of them have struggled elsewhere, but they are successful after they graduate as well. More than 92 percent of our graduates who are college-age are currently attending college.”

City Manager Jerry Fulwood, City Council member Steve Rose and Park Century Board President Debbie Chernoff will join students, faculty and other dignitaries in helping to break ground on the new campus.
