Earlier this week, bank executive Vernon L. Taylor, who has not been a stranger around City Hall, became the latest entry in the one-week-extended race for three seats on the School Board.

Prof. Patricia Siever’s decision not to pursue a second term lengthened the deadline for the Nov. 5 election.

Mr. Taylor joins Steve Levin, Robert Zirgulis, Sue Robins and incumbents Kathy Paspalis and Karlo Silbiger in the six-person field.

Tomorrow afternoon at 5 is the final-final filing deadline with the County Registrar.

A resident of Culver City for 15 years, Mr. Taylor has been recognized for
his achievement, for his leadership during 25 years as an
executive in banking and finance.

Among his civic blue ribbons, he lists:

• Two-time School Site Council member (El Rincon and Culver City Middle
School).

• Two-term City Council appointee and past chairman of the Culver City
Community Development Block Grant Commission.

• Four-term City Council appointee and past chairman of the Culver City
Advisory Committee on Redevelopment.

• Six-year volunteer for the Culver City High School Grad Night celebration.

• He served as Key-Three Executive and as District Commissioner, Boy Scouts of America-Crescent Bay District.

• 12-year volunteer mentor and coach, Culver-Palms Family YMCA Jr. Lakers.

Vernon Taylor is committed to the youth of Culver City
Mr. Taylor’s campaign said that his priority is to focus all School Board actions and decisions on how the
needs and best interests of Culver City's students can be ensured, improved
and supported.

“His professional experience and community leadership,” said a campaign spokesperson, “have prepared him to make the decisions necessary to keep our School District efficient and effective in pursuit of educational excellence of our schools.”
