Gateway Takes Charge of Educating Concerned Residents About Development

With an important meeting six days away, the Gateway Neighborhood Assn. is inviting residents of Culver City to participate in a six-session study group covering issues of development in the community.

From January through June, Gateway will convene on the last Tuesday of the month, starting next Tuesday evening.

The meeting will last from 7 until at Living Green, 10000 Culver Blvd.

RSVPs for each session are requested by emailing gatewayna@yahoo.com­, although attendees are welcome at the door. An optional $5 donation per session will be appreciated to help cover costs.

Next Tuesday’s opening session will feature guest speaker Sol Blumenfeld, who has been the Community Development Director since last spring.

Mr. Blumenfeld will address the topic “Development and City Hall (Project Approval from Beginning to End).”

His presentation will cover discussion of the roles of the Planning Staff, the Planning Commission and the City Council, their interactions; where and when in the process neighborhood residents can get involved; Culver City’s mansionization law; and what the phrase (found in section 17.210.010 of Culver City’s Zoning Code) “standards are intended to maintain the existing character of the neighborhood” actually means, and who is empowered to interpret this phrase.

  • Tuesday, April 29 — “What Is a Sustainable City? (How to Balance People, Profit and Planet)”

  • Tuesday, May 27 — “Sustainable and Climate-Appropriate Design for Culver City”

  • Tuesday, June 24 — “Elements of the General Plan (aka Prepare Yourself for the Upcoming
    General Plan Review & Revision)”


Who Is in Gateway?



The Gateway Neighborhood Assn. was created by and for homeowners and renters residing on Duquesne, Lincoln, Madison, and La Salle avenues between Culver Boulevard and Ballona Creek in Culver City.

Gateway’s aim is to preserve, protect and enhance the special character of its neighborhood by joining together to influence decisions made by the city regarding the neighborhood’s development and maintenance, and to contribute to creating a greater sense of community in our neighborhood by providing residents with opportunities to become acquainted.

Living Green, member of the Culver City Green Business Assn., offers retail customers and tradespeople green building materials, home furnishings, gifts and accessories, and information intended to be supportive of healthier, happier home and work environments.
