Re “Ruben Makes Alternate Blind Proposal – Single Coin, a Quarter”

If Warren Olney will forgive an extravagant act of borrowing, if not outright pilferage:

Which way, CCB?

Which way will city Transportation Director Art Ida lean when he recommends charging Culver CityBus riders who are blind a fee for the first time?

The 35 cents that he earlier suggested?

Or two-bits, the hugely logical, easy-to-handle single coin concept that legendary bus rider Ken Ruben proposed at last evening’s community outreach meeting?

“I am not going to make a decision until I get all of the information,” Mr. Ida told the newspaper this morning. “We still have some time.

“I still am waiting for other comments, and then a decision will be made collectively.”

In view of a crippled man’s gripe that it was unfair to let blind persons ride the Culver CityBus free while charging other handicapped people 35 cents, the City Council is due to render a decision at its Monday, July 14, meeting.

Thinking conservatively, 35 cents seems likely to win out. If The Griping Grinch beefed to City Hall over a petty 35 cents, the betting is he will revisit a looming threat if City Hall fails to make the feet identical for all who are handicapped.

Mr. Ida will consult others in City Hall, including City Manager John Nachbar.

Then the arrow will point at Mr. Ida to make the final call.
