Re “Chardiet’s No. 1 Early Task: Strategizing”

Entering her third year on the School Board going into tomorrow evening’s road trip Board meeting at La Ballona Elementary’s cafetorium. at 7 o’clock, new president Laura Chardiet returns home, to where her volunteer career started, to where both her daughter and son were enrolled years ago.

The former actress may be more overtly enthusiastic than the next five people cumulatively, and that was obvious through her free-lance volunteering and terms with the PTA.

She created events, she sparked and inspired teachers and passive students to explore and attain flying energy levels that would mystify them.

“Being on the School Board is very meaningful work and so different from what I did before,” Ms. Chardiet said. “I was used to volunteering. The one thing you are missing on the Board is you are so separated from the students.

“You Miss that, “but the policies you are helping to decide have a larger effect on the students.

“I really enjoy the big picture.”

Ms. Chardiet’s family and friends would have been shocked if her response had been a shticlke different.

“Professionally, I work downtown at the L.A. Unified district offices, so I have a big picture with my job, too,” she said.

“I also like connecting people who have similar goals and objectives, but they just don’t realize they do. When you are on the Board, you become a kind of hub of activity, a hub of information, and I so enjoy that.”
