Saturday, Aug. 2, will be South L.A. Demo Day for a special group of inner city teenagers when they meet on the USC campus, the Salvatori Computer Science Center Room 101, at 941 Bloom Walk.
With state schools Supt. Tom Torlakson as special guest, the teenagers who belong to Urban TxTers — shorthand for Urban Teens, inner city teens, eXploring Technology (TxT) – will be participating in marketing day.
Before a panel of judges, the teens will be pitching the web and mobil-based products they have created, and their visions for solving specific issues.
Political leaders, tech entrepreneurs and the general community will be in the audience for the program that runs until 3 o’clock.
Urban TxT seeks to develop young men into leaders with strong minds through the exploration and use of technology to positively impact their communities.
The organization encourages inner city teen males to become catalysts of change in urban communities. The laser focus is to develop teens from South L.A and Watts into a new generation of community and technology leaders.
Urban TxT founders believe that access to technology should be available to everyone, especially low socio-economic communities.
Through its curriculum, Urban TxT inspires a culture of innovation, collaboration, and strong academics among our young men.
If technology is the equalizer in the 21st century, Urban TxT officials are committed to nurturing future leaders.
In small learning circles, youths learn research skills, public speaking, leadership and project management skills by using new media tools including web 2.0 tools. Other skills taught to teens are data analysis and time management.
URBAN TxT believes the following Pillars will be the foundation of each TxTer as he strives to succeed in the program of life.
- Community.
- Leadership.
- Academics.
- Technology.
