Re “Nobody Knows the Map Better Than Bixby”

Could life be any better for Scott Bixby, the prospective new chief of the Police Dept.?

Emerging from meetings with his former peers, “it’s great,” Mr.Bixby said of the mood in the New Era sitdowns.

“Everybody seems to be happy. From what I am hearing from people here and from what I have seen, morale is very high.

“It is all good,” he said, and his upbeat feelings were writ large and legibly across his smiling face.

“I am excited every day when I come in to work,” Mr. Bixby said for the second or third time.  “I am happy and I am really excited about the future.”

It still will be a few more weeks before the City Council decides on a permanent successor to Don Pedersen, who retired as chief in early April.

If the choice is not Mr. Bixby, the hometown boy, this story will be the Culver City upset of the century.

At full complement, the department has 105 sworn officers, but recently has been down nine.  “This is a concern for me,” said Mr. Bixby. “We are doing our best to get people. I don’t want to lower our standards. I want to get the very best.”
