[img]777|left|Fire Capt. Steve Rankin||no_popup[/img]Culver City Fire Capt. Steve Rankin died Tuesday evening at his home in Moorpark, surrounded by his family, after a lengthy illness.
Capt. Rankin, 54, joined the Fire Dept. in 1984.
He was selected first out of eight new firefighters hired that year.
Over the ensuing 26 years, he held the ranks of firefighter, fire inspector, paramedic and engineer before being promoted to captain in 2008.
Capt. Rankin took part in battling last summer’s devastating Station Fire, where his engine company helped protect the residents of Tujunga and nearby cities.
Capt. Rankin is survived by his wife Maureen, and daughters Megan and Jordan.
Throughout his career, he earned the respect of his fellow firefighters.
He was known for his friendly disposition, sense of humor and his commitment to Christ.
Funeral services will be held at Moorpark Presbyterian Church in Moorpark on Saturday, Feb. 13, with internment immediately following at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Cemetery in Thousand Oaks.
