Adding another prominent legal figure to his growing list of supporters, today Los Angeles city attorney candidate Mike Feuer announced an endorsement from former Justice Cruz Reynoso.

“I first met Mike when he clerked for the Supreme Court,” said Mr. Reynoso.

“I have been impressed by his intellect, his leadership skills and his passion for social justice,” said Justice Reynoso.

“From his time as the head of Bet Tzedek in the ‘80s and early ’90s to his work as an elected official, Mike Feuer has been an inspiring, effective leader, who accomplishes great things. Los Angeles needs a city attorney with his broad experience, exceptional legal skills, and talent for bringing people together.”

A civil rights lawyer, professor emeritus of law at U.C. Davis, and the first Chicano associate justice of the California Supreme Court, Mr. Reynoso’s endorsement is perceived to carry significant weight among the legal and justice communities throughout California. He served as a U.S. Civil Rights Commissioner from 1993 to 2004, and he received the presidential Medal of Freedom for “his efforts to address social inequity in the rural community.”

Mr. Feuer, a state Assemblyman who is running against incumbent city attorney Carmen Trutanich in the March 5 primary, said that “Justice Reynoso has overcome incredible odds to rise to the top of the legal profession. Notwithstanding his achievements, Justice Reynoso remains one of the most humble and sincere people I have met.

“He also is one of the most accomplished advocates for justice and for equality of our generation.”
