Dominating his competition in the race to earn sought-after endorsements from the groups voters respect the most, today Mike Feuer won the prized endorsement of the California Federation of Teachers, the statewide affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers. The CFT represents faculty and other school employees in public and private schools and colleges, from early childhood through higher education.
“As a lawyer and an elected official, Mike Feuer consistently has been a champion for quality and equity in the classroom, and assuring that schools and the neighborhoods in which they're located are safe,” said President Josh Pechthalt.
“Mike has fought to invest in our schools, established an innovative literacy program, spearheaded efforts to support one of L.A.'s most successful after-school programs and written some of the nation's toughest laws to reduce violence in our communities.
“He is earned our support through his years of strong and effective leadership.”
“As city attorney,” sad “Mr. Feuer, “I’ll make safe schools and neighborhoods a top priority.
“That means partnering with teachers, administrators, parents and students to reduce gun violence and gang activity in and around schools.” said Feuer.
In addition to today’s endorsement from California’s teachers, Mr. Feuer has also earned the support of California’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Torlakson.
Recently Mr. Feuer has been riding a major wave of momentum with the an endorsement just yesterday from Congressman Tony Cardenas, and with endorsements last week from Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa, former Assembly Speaker and former Chair of incumbent City Attorney Carmen Trutanich’s Transition Team Bob Hertzberg, the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, and the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters.
Mr. Feuer is also leading the field of candidates in the race to garner support from important labor groups, including: AFSCME District Council 36, Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAM) District Lodge 947, United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 770, UNITE HERE Local 11, California Nurses Association (CNA), UA Local 78 Plumbers, Laborers (LiUNA) Local 777 United Public Employees of CA, Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1277, United Steel Workers (USW), Communications Workers of America (CWA) Southern California Council, Operating Engineers (I.U.O.E.)
