Re “Farris on LaRose: ‘I Don’t Aspire to be Just Any Superintendent’”
[img]2803|right|Dylan Farris||no_popup[/img]In the midst of lavishly describing his admiration for School District Supt. Dave LaRose, Dylan Farris was asked to be more specific:
Is it what Mr. LaRose does verbally, psychologically or a different dimension?
Mr. Farris, down to his last four days as principal of Culver City High School before moving on to the El Segundo school district, parried the question with a chuckle.
“‘A different dimension’ is an interesting way to put it,” he said. “It does seem, at times, like he is from a different dimension.
“There is a force at work in Dave that almost is indescribable. Something very special. It’s probably innate for him, not something you can easily duplicate.
“There is something about his can-do attitude, his inspirational leadership.”
Mr. Farris endorsed the characterization of Mr. LaRose as “a businessman in education.”
There is a part of the superintendent’s personality that looks like a salesman, said Mr. Farris. “There is a salesmanship about him. But unlike most salesman, what he is selling is authentic.
“The pitch he delivers is not to sell himself,” said the 38-year-old Mr. Farris, who accepted the executive directorship of the El Segundo Unified School District’s human services department two weeks ago this morning. “The pitch is gen-u-ine,” and he drew out the three-syllable word into at least six.
