Re “LaRose Talks About Farris and Timing of Leaving”
[img]1456|right|Mr. Dave LaRose||no_popup[/img]Supt. Dave LaRose was ruminating the other day about the October decision of now-departed Culver City High School Principal Dylan Farris to leave for nearby pastures at a higher elevation.
One point he was making was that by shifting to an assistant superintendent’s type of role in the adjacent El Segundo Unified School District, Mr. Farris, 38 years old, remained in the neighborhood.
In case Mr. Farris had not noticed, the door back to Culver City seems to have remained yawningly wide open. No one is disposing of the nameplate for his desk.
“With Dylan, and sometimes with others,” Mr. LaRose said, “parameters they start to establish are geographical before they think they are ready for that next step.
“It may require leaving the District. If there had been an opportunity here, he certainly would not have looked elsewhere.
“If you want to take that next step to central office, you may need to leave the District. But geographically, you are not far away.
“I am not sure that necessarily that was the case with Dylan. So when something happens, it’s regional. It’s not going to impact Dylan and his family in terms of a move to a central office position.”
With a firmness for which Mr. LaRose is noted, he talked about the circumstances of Mr. Farris moving on.
“He wanted my support, and I offered it. If someone is interested in a position and I can speak affirmatively about his or her performance – even if I don’t want the person to go – I have an obligation to do it.”
