ARTWORKS, Farragut Elementary’s annual art show and art auction, will be staged this weekend at the Helms Bakery Complex.

The fifth anniversary of the fundraiser will be celebrated at Helms, 8723 Washington Blvd., on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m., and on Sunday, Family Day, from 10 to 1.

The Cream

Farragut students critiqued and selected their best work to display in the 500- piece gallery art show.

Another 100 pieces of professional art from local artists have been donated for the silent and live auctions as well as additional gift certificates from local businesses.

Saturday’s lively evening of art, a live and silent auction, cocktails, jazz and hors d’ oeuvres is widely attended, not only by parents but it also attracts arts supporters, city officials and the community.
Admission is $10 to Saturday’s adults-only gallery show and art auctionin space provided by art supporters Walter Marks, Inc.

The popular cocktail bar will be provided by Culver City’s newest Councilman, Mehaul O’Leary of Joxer Daly’s, with hors d’ oeuvres by Bellagio, desserts by Lonzo’s Bakery, musical entertainment by Mr. Pascoe’s Jazz Trio.

The silent and live auction of professional art will offer affordable prices.

Babysitting Offered

Childcare will be available for $15 per child at the nearby Josephson Academy of Gymnastics with pre-registration for Farragut students only.

The hottest item last year was a Tinker Bell animation cell by inker Martha Sigal, which sold for $400. This year she is donating another animation cell.

Odrganizers anticipate that the most popular item this year may be a print from the poster artist Robbie Conal.

Special Gift

A Farragut parent, Tim Dickson, is donating 20 signed Collectors Editions prints.

More than $14,000 was raised last year to support the arts at Farragut Elementary School.

This money paid the art teacher’s salary and provided all the necessary art supplies to fund the entire program for the year.

The art program at Farragut would not exist otherwise, officials said.

All proceeds from the ARTWORKS event will go to the Farragut Fan Club, the sponsoring organization for the art program at Farragut.

Arts and Technology Focus

“ARTWORKS is such a wonderful way for us to showcase our students’ art creations,” said Principal Barbara Brown.

“At the same time it provides an ‘arts’ event for the community to enjoy. Farragut is an ‘arts and technology focus’ school.

“We not only are able to give our students classes in art, but next year we plan to give music appreciation classes to all of our kindergarten through fourth grade students. We enjoy leading the way in providing an arts education for every student.”

Co-sponsors of this event are Walter Marks, Inc., Joxer Daly’s and Josephson Academy of Gymnastics.
