Here is a negotiations update from the Assn. of Classified Employees-Culver City:

The ACE negotiations team met with School District’s representatives on Wednesday when we continued to discuss the following items:

Budget update – We are concerned about the way funds have been budgeted in the District’s interim reports. We requested specific information about how the over $6 million allocated to consultants/legal expenses had been spent to date. We were told that approximately $4.7 million has been spent or allocated thus far. Since we are so close to the end of the school year, it appears to us as if several thousand dollars will “fall to the bottom of the budget” on June 30. If this is the case, it seems as if the District’s request for 8 furlough days may be unnecessary.

• The savings realized from 8 furlough days would equal $318,000 for the District. The counterproposal the team crafted would realize the same savings for the District, but with far fewer furlough days for our members. Our proposal is contingent upon two things:

1. Seeing the detailed budget information we have requested in order to access the need for furlough days, and

2. The restoration of every job eliminated or reduced at the May 3 School Board meeting. In addition, we requested that no additional support staff cuts or reductions be considered by the Board.

• Since it has been publicly stated by more than one Board member that our agreeing to the proposed number of furlough days would eliminate the need to cut a single job, we felt comfortable with the proposal we submitted Wednesday. We meet with the District again on Thursday, May 26.
