Despite a Shortage of Time, Choosing Cooper Was Complex

[img]2850|right|Lisa Cooper||no_popup[/img]While five weeks along there is enthusiastic majority agreement that Lisa Cooper is a strong choice as the interim principal of Culver City High School, how did the selection come about?

Did her predecessor and former boss, Dylan Farris, make the recommendation in mid-October when it became known he was leaving?

Or did Supt. Dave LaRose make the call?

When the question was put to Mr. LaRose, he said:

“I would say that centrally we assumed that responsibility,” he answered.

[img]1456|left|Dave LaRose||no_popup[/img]Team. Collaboration. This is the concept of crucial decision-making Mr. LaRose has aggressively championed throughout his 2½- year tenure.

Mr. Farris made up his mind to accept a new position with El Segundo schools one week in early October, and the following week was his swan song on the Culver High campus.

There was no time for machinations.

“We had to make an immediate decision around an interim plan,” the superintendent said.

“We believe the decision is very important, the kind that was implemented last year at the Middle School. Very comprehensive and inclusive, inclusive of meetings with staff. This was a real collaborative process around, engaging the staff in what is it about this place, not just why you as a candidate would we want to look at you, but why do you want to look at us? What is it that makes us special?  We involve the staff in what are those characteristics and qualities, experiences, values and beliefs that we are looking for in the next person. We identify an elaborate, inclusive process,” said Mr. LaRose.
