Culver City’s Sharpest Spellers Square Away Tonight at 7

[img]2802|right|||no_popup[/img]Get ready to dust off those dictionaries this evening at 7 in the Lin Howe School Cafetorium where 24 of the best and brightest students in the School District will attempt spell their way to the top.

Four students from each of the District’s five elementary schools and Culver City Middle School will participate. 

The competition is sponsored by The Fineshriber Family Foundation.

The spelling bee will be taped and broadcast on the local cable access channel shortly after the event.

“Every year, millions of students participate in spelling competitions around the country,” said Supt. Dave LaRose. “We are excited that we will be having our 10th spelling bee.”

The winner will advance to the county-wide competition in March in Alhambra, and the County winner of will qualify for the statewide spelling bee in May at Sonoma State University.
In addition, the School District winner will receive a cash prize of $200 from The Fineshriber Family Foundation.

Second- and third-place finishers will be awarded $150 and $100. The top three finishers will receive a trophy, while every Spelling Bee participant will be guven a certificate.

All fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade students have had an opportunity to compete, first at the school level, and the top four spellers have advanced to the district-wide competition.
