Nearly a month has passed since seven members of the Culver City Police Dept. – out of respect for fellow officers —  flew to New York to attend the massive funeral for NYPD Officer Rafael Ramos, murdered in cold blood, along with his cop partner, by a deranged Muslim while the two sat in their patrol car.

Memories are etched indelibly in the mind of Chief Scott Bixby. “Not only were two New York officers station 24/7 in the lobby of our hotel throughout our stay,” he said, “the hospitality, the graciousness, the generosity” were overwhelming.

“The Fire Dept. opened their doors and said ‘Come on in. We are all blue.’

“I never have been to New York and seen places like this, places right out of a movie.”

Now isn’t that a switch when Chief Bixby, a neighbor of Hollywood, goes 3,000 miles east and is reminded of filmland.

“When we walked into the 104th Precinct, and it was just like being on the set of ‘Hill Street Blues.’ The sergeant’s desk was sitting there, up high. The locker room was there.

“I thought ‘Oh, my goodness gracious.’”
