In retrospect, the arm-flailing fears expressed around City Hall last spring over the prospect of shaving off healthcare benefits for all but the most senior city employees was a study in hyperbole, as these matters often are.
City Hall sources have confirmed that the Dec. 31 exodus may amount to a baker’s dozen.
Out of about 650 fulltime employees.
On the first day of the final month, merely six city employees have filed papers, declaring their intention to resign/retire by the deadline.
Fewer than a half-dozen others have indicated they may leave.
“As you can see,” said a City Hall employee who has no intention of quitting, “the numbers don’t begin to approach the decimation level that fearmongers were wringing their hands about.”
