Dateline East Los Angeles – When we left the Sebastian and Mirsa Lopez family last summer – he is disabled and uses a wheelchair, their son has been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy – they were locked in almost daily combat with management of their gigantic apartment complex over failing facilities.
Two seasons later, they are enduring their third winter without heat. In six weeks, they will observe the one-year anniversary of their dead stove. The shower was a separate casualty.
Two weeks ago this morning, Mr. Lopez tells the newspaper, management representatives “broke into” their modest dwelling in Wyvernwood Gardens, Boyle Heights, because the gas company needed access.
“That made absolutely no sense to me,” Mr. Lopez, an accident victim, said. “What was the emergency?
The Lopezes might never have noticed – except that a number of presents surrounding the tree, he says, were filched.
Oh, yes, and the lock on the front door was changed but the family has not obtained a new key. Fortunately, the family lives on the ground floor. Mr. Lopez said his wife, son and daughter leave and return through a window.
