The Culver City Centennial Celebration Committee already has held its organizational meeting, and the wagon is rolling fast with just under 2½ years to go.
To enhance the authenticity of the biggest birthday in history, Paul Jacobs, Jozelle Smith and Steve Rose – former City Council members all – will be prominent among the party planners.
Current Council member Jim Clarke scarcely could have been more excited as he reported the opening scene from the upstairs Cathedral Room at City Hall.
Here is the lineup for the Centennial Board:
- Jim B. Clarke, President
- Laura J. Stuart, Secretary
- Mike Cohen
- Goran Eriksson
- Paul Jacobs
- Darrel Menthe
- Terry Robins
- Judy Scott
- Jozelle Smith
- Phillip L. Tangalakis
- Scott Wyant
The vice president and the treasurer will be elected at an upcoming meeting, which has not been set. A regular monthly meeting date still is to be determined.
It is fitting Mr. Clarke is at the helm because he turned on the motor and planted initial excitement about Culver City’s Centennial a few months ago.
“My intention is to stay involved with the committee at least until the end of the year,” he said. “Then I want to step away because now, every time something comes up, I would have to recuse myself from voting.
“But I want to get it organized, up and running so we will have a good process in place and know where we are going.”
At the organizing meeting, the Centennial Committee passed its by-laws, authorized a committee to pursue a 501(c)3 designation, prepared to apply for a Culver City business license, and reviewed potential projects.
“We will be reaching out to organizations and individuals to get sponsors for our projects,” Mr. Clarke said.
