City Councilman Jim Clarke ended the year on Tuesday by becoming the first candidate in April’s Council race to file his official forms with the City Clerk.
Surrounded by supporters, Mr. Clarke went through the numerous documents with the City Clerk Martin Cole and his assistant Jeremy Green to assure everything was in order.

Candidate Jim Clarke, 11th from the left, eighth from the right, is surrounded by friends at his filing, including colleague Mehaul O’Leary, 14th from the left.
Everyone held his breath when Mr. Cole asked Mr. Clarke if he was sure he wanted his name on the ballot as a candidate for City Council. A resounding cheer went up when the candidate replied affirmatively.
The official filing period ends at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13.
Other potential candidates for the two available seats have until then to submit their papers.
Information about the election may be found on the city’s website www.culvercity.org.
The election is April 8, and tabulating of the ballots will take place in City Hall after the polls close at 8:00 p.m.
Mr. Clarke won a seat on the Council in 2012 when, for the first time, four out of five seats were open. Since he was elected to the unexpired term of a Council member who resigned his position, that is why he is up for election again after only two years.
