City Hall to the Guv: We Have 30 Projects at $435 Million

As can be gleaned from this first formal public unveiling, Culver City’s under-siege Redevelopment Agency thought up nearly every conceivable improvement they could undertake in the next 30 years when members met in an emergency mode last Saturday.

With hatchet-bearing Gov. Brown threatening to make California’s thousands of municipal redevelopment agencies extinct later in the spring in a cost-cutting tactic, Culver City, like many other towns, has moved with alacrity in recent days.

Just as in pioneer days when settlers circled their wagons to fend off attackers, big and small cities alike — planning swiftly, almost desperately, for their immediate and long-range future — are marshalling and shifting their financial resources to prevent such funds from being drained off by the state in case Mr. Brown prevails.

The list was provided by City Manager John Nachbar.
