Garnering the highest honor in the past five decades to a Culver City real estate agent by a regional realtor association, Dannie Cavanaugh received the William May Garland Award last week at the annual Beverly Hills-Greater Los Angeles Board of Realtors Induction Banquet.

A real estate agent since 1976, when he began working with his father, Dan Cavanaugh of Dan Cavanaugh Realtors, the younger Mr. Cavanaugh has served the past 25 years on numerous Beverly Hills-Greater Los Angeles Board of Realtor committees involving public policy, foundations and nominations.

“The Board looks out for the private property rights of owners in Culver City and neighboring cities,” Mr. Cavanaugh said.

“We adhere to a code of ethics that sets standards for all realtors.

“My involvement with the Board has made me more knowledgeable about what’s going on to better assist my clients.”

Leading Culver City

Mr. Cavanaugh served as President of the Culver City Board of Realtors in 1987 during his 14 years on the local Board of Directors.

He was voted Culver City Realtor of the Year in 1988.

Shortly after, he helped merge the Culver City group with the present Beverly Hills-Greater Los Angeles Board of Realtors.

“I had to do a lot of convincing to get the old timers on the Culver City Board for that big change,” said Mr. Cavanaugh with a wry smile.

Establishing a Precedent

The Loyola High School alumnus was one of the first volleyball players to receive an athletic scholarship at Loyola Marymount University. He earned a degree there in Economics.

Mr. Cavanaugh belongs to the Culver City Rotary Club and the Culver City Downtown Business Assn.

He and his wife, Marie McTeague, reside in Culver City, where he has advised city officials on housing issues.

Salute from the Top

“Dannie has made significant contributions for many years to the association and the communities it serves,” said Ronna Brand, President of  the Beverly Hills-Greater Los Angeles group. “We are grateful for what he has helped us accomplish,”

Mr. Garland, for whom the award was eponymously named, helped form the Los Angeles Realty Board, and the California and National Assns. of Realtors®.

He was president of the National Assn. in 1917-18. Mr. Garland was instrumental in bringing the first Olympics to Los Angeles in 1932.
