It was a blast to the past at Culver City High School this past Saturday. Over 100 classic, and some not-so-classic, cars were on display at the Culver City High School Booster Club’s first annual Car Show.

In a true community event, each Culver High sports team, and other clubs and organizations were on hand selling food and drink, raffle tickets and adding to the festivities. Local businesses, including Versailles and El Pollo Loco, set up stands to help feed the hundreds in attendance.

Prizes were awarded for best in show, best pickup truck, best muscle car and best specialty car.

Judges Alan Corlin and Steve Rose spent hours examining the vehicles. They were quite impressed at the number and quality of the contestant cars. The event was the dream of Diana and George Aceves, who took the show from its inaugural idea stage through the show’s highly successful debut.

Judge Scott Zeidman marveled at the work performed by Diana and George. “I can’t believe they pulled this off,” Mr. Zeidman said. “What a fantastic event Diana and George put together! They started with nothing but an idea. With a tremendous amount of work, they came through with a great car show.”

The Car Show is expected to raise more than $3,000 for the Booster Club.

The Culver City Booster Club focuses on enhancing the learning environment of all students at Culver City High School through the promotion of on-campus extracurricular activities including, but not limited to, campus clubs and athletics. The wide variety of extracurricular activities allows students an opportunity to grow both academically and socially.

The Booster Club’s next major event is the 5th annual Community Casino Night, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 26. Prepaid tickets are available at the discounted price of $20/person. You may contact Jerry Chabola or Larry Zeidman (lz@laslots.com) for details.
