Bernard Parks has a jumbo race of his own to worry about.

However, he has his eye on other campaigns on the Westside.

Taking time from his fierce race with state Sen. Mark Ridley-Thomas (D-Culver City) for a seat on the County Board of Supervisors, Mr. Parks today is endorsing Dr. Luther Henderson for the City Council of Culver City in the April 8 election.

The former Los Angeles Police Chief, now a member of the Los Angeles City Council, said:

“Luther Henderson is the right choice for the City Council because he is committed to bringing business and jobs to the area. He has a proven ability to serve the diverse people of Culver City and to fight for their needs.

“Luther has monitored the budgets of the Los Angeles Community College District, and he is the fiscally sound voice the city needs in this time of economic uncertainty.”

Returning for a moment to his three and a half decades with the LAPD, Mr. Parks said that Dr. Henderson, as a graduate of the Culver City Police Dept. Citizens Police Academy, “has demonstrated his commitment to public safety for the city he loves. I look forward to joining Luther Henderson in his efforts to increase employment and public safety in Culver City.”

Dr. Henderson, in return, said that Mr. Parks is “one of the nation's most distinguished law enforcement officers.” I look forward to working with him to improve Culver City's quality of life.”

In recent weeks, Dr. Henderson has been endorsed by County Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke, County Sheriff Leroy D. Baca, three-time former Culver City Mayor Albert Vera, U.S. Rep. Diane E. Watson (D-Culver City), former Culver City Mayor Ed Wolkowitz and current School Board member Steve Gourley.
