The third annual Artwalk Culver City, a self-guided tour of a dazzling necklace of 45 art galleries and exhibition spaces — many of which have opened in recent years — will unfold on Saturday.
Sponsored by the city of Culver City, the tour, on what is expected to be a perfect late spring day, extends from 12 noon until 8 o’clock.
Galleries will be open from noon to 6, and selected galleries will remain open until 8..
There also will be readings by KCRW’s “Urban Man,” Marc Porter Zasada, and music from jazz guitarist Perry Smith at Bakery Art Exhibitions at the Jazz Bakery from 1 to 4.
Live jazz will be presented in the Culver City Art District, along Washington Boulevard between La Cienega Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, featuring alumni musicians from the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz.
For information: www.culvercity.org.
Artwalk Culver City opens the doors of art galleries to introduce a wider audience to the vitality of the artist spaces of Culver City.
Artwalk celebrates the Culver City Art District, a cluster of more than 30 galleries exhibiting new and distinguished artists, where Washington and La Cienega boulevards intersect.
Artwalkers are encouraged to carpool.
Parking is available in Downtown parking structures as well as in designated lots in and surrounding the Art District.
In celebration of its 80th anniversary, Culver CityBus will be offering
Artwalk bus passes for 75 cents. The
Artwalk Bus Pass may only be used on Saturday, between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. Also, the
Artwalk Bus Pass may only be used for unlimited rides on Line 1,
which will be traveling on Washington Boulevard into Downtown and
through the Culver City Art District.
Artwalk Bus Passes may be purchased on Culver CityBus on the date of the event. Artwalkers are advised to refrain from parking in the residential area surrounding the Art District.
Following
Artwalk, the MOCA Contemporaries will host an after-party at the Culver Hotel, starting at 6:30. One of the Southland's major cultural support organizations, the MOCA Contemporaries provides financial support for the museum through a variety of fundraising programs, and seeks to cultivate future leadership for MOCA by nurturing the next generation of art collectors and community leaders.
