Residents suffering health problems related to pollution from the Tesoro and Valero refineries in Wilmington will join Assemblymember Warren Furutani (D-South Los Angeles) for a protest and press conference on Thursday to say a resounding “No” to Prop. 23, the dirty-energy ballot measure sponsored by the two companies.
The event, sponsored by Communities United Against the Dirty Energy Proposition, The Greenlining Institute, Communities for a Better Environment, Coalition for a Safe Environment and The Wilmington Wire, will begin at 4 o’clock with a press conference at Wilmington Veterans Park, at the corner of Drumm Avenue and Brinn Avenue. Speakers will include Assemblyman Furutani, Mary Cervantes, a community member suffering from lung cancer, and Gisele Fong, Ph.D., executive director of End Oil and resident of Long Beach.
