Convicted murderer Scott Allen Ansman, former National Guardsman who was scheduled to be sentenced yesterday, will have to wait a little longer before determining his next destination.
Instead of imposing an anticipated sentence of life without possibility of parole, the court agreed to entertain a motion for a new trial from defense attorney Nan Whitfield at a hearing on Tuesday, July 14, at the Airport Courthouse.
Last month, a jury convicted the married Mr. Ansman of the brutal slaying of his lady friend, JoAnn Crystal Harris, who was pregnant, following a dispute at the National Guard Armory in Culver City on the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 24, 2007.
In a separate Culver City case, a trial date for Justin Finizza, accused of attempted murder on South Sepulveda Boulevard on St. Patrick’s Day a year ago, finally has been set.
It is scheduled for Thursday, also at the Airport Courthouse.
