More than 250 printed and framed photographs by Culver City photographer Elizabeth Thoman, founder of Healing Petals Photography, will be featured in a one-day exhibit and sale on Saturday at the Bluebird Café, 8572 National Blvd., Culver City.

Featuring extreme closeups of roses, tulips, daffodils, lilies and many other flowers in full bloom, Healing Petals photographs are designed to inspire “healing and hope” especially for those fighting life threatening illnesses, according to Ms. Thoman, 68, who discovered her gift for photography following her own treatment and recovery from breast cancer in 2005.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and a share of proceeds from sales will go to support clinical trials in breast cancer research.

Acclaimed nationally as not just eye catching but “heart-catching,” the photographs are suitable for display in homes as well as medical offices, hospitals and any space where calm and quiet are needed for physical, emotional or spiritual healing.

Recently Ms. Thoman installed over 300 Healing Petals in patient rooms in a hospital in Nashville, Tenn. Other installations range from a psychiatrist’s office in Great Falls, Mont., to an assisted care center in Davenport, Iowa. The photos are also often purchased as gifts for the elderly or friends and relatives with cancer.

“But you don’t have to be sick to be inspired by the beauty of Creation,” she explained. “We’re all in need of healing often in our stressful and busy lives.”

The photographs come in a variety of sizes from 4”x6” to 20”x24” and are priced from $15 to $250. Unique and individual frames complement the images making each one-of-a-kind. Many images are also available as greeting cards and a 2012 calendar.

Additional handcrafts, including pottery, baskets, quilts, jewelry and textiles will also be available for purchase. Parking is available free at the popular café, six blocks south of Washington Boulevard.

A preview of the photography exhibit can be found online at www.HealingPetals.org.
