Is this a first in Culver City politics?
With the recent endorsement of the Beverly Hills/Greater Los Angeles Assn. of Realtors and the Culver City Employees Assn., Planning Commissioner Andy Weissman has locked up endorsements from every organization that has announced plans to endorse a City Council candidate in the April 8 election.
“I am truly flattered by the depth and breadth of support I have received,” Mr. Weissman said.
The Weissman endorsements span the folorganizations, in alphabetical order:
- Beverly Hills/Greater Los Angeles Assn. of Realtors® – a real estate group representing 6,000 realtors on the Westside.
- Culver City Chamber of Commerce – the city’s primary business advocacy organization, representing more than 800 local businesses.
- Culver City Democratic Club – founded in 1952 and representing hundreds of Culver City Democrats.
- Culver City Employees Assn. – representing the city of Culver City’s general service classified employees.
- Culver City Firefighters Assn. – representing Culver City’s firefighters.
- Culver City Police Officers Assn. – representing police officers and sergeants.
- Los Angeles County Democratic Party – the official governing body of the Democratic Party in the County that works in cooperation with the state and national Democratic committees.
- Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters – the only environmental Political Action Committee in Los Angeles County.
- Sierra Club – America’s oldest, largest and arguably most influential grassroots environmental organization.
Here is what appears to be another Culver City political first:
Mr. Weissman is being supported by each of the sitting members of the City Council: Mayor Alan Corlin, Vice Mayor Carol Gross and Councilmen Scott Malsin, Steve Rose and Gary Silbiger.
Mr. Weissman said his campaign combines deep roots in Culver City, decades of community service and a commitment to the future. making our city even better. Prior to his service on the Planning Commission, he previously was selected for the city’s Civil Service, Human Services and the Parks and Recreation commissions. Mr. Weissman is the immediate past president of the Downtown Business Assn. and a member of the city’s Homelessness Ad Hoc Committee. He chaired the city’s Charter Review Committee as well as the “Yes on Measure V” campaign in ’06 when Measure V was overwhelmingly approved by voters and resulted in sweeping changes to the City Charter including changing the form of city government to City Manager and enacting ethics provisions.
