Officials from the School District and the Community College District gathered yesterday afternoon with West Los Angeles College leadership and students to celebrate the opening of a new on-campus bus stop.

It brings riders right to Admissions and Student Services, the Bookstore and Café, classrooms, and an elevator to the upper level of campus.

Location of the new bus stop was made possible by the college working in partnership with Culver City to create a bus turnaround at the college. The turnaround was funded by voter-approved construction bonds.

In addition to bringing riders up two long inclines that can be a difficult walk for some, it minimizes the number of homes adjacent to the college that the bus must pass.

The CulverCityBus had the honor of cutting the ribbon to the turnaround by driving through it as the West President Nabil Abu-Ghazaleh and mascot waved to all.

Another ribbon was cut at the actual bus stop by Community College Trustee Nancy Pearlman with applause from District Chancellor Dr. Adriana Barrera, Culver City Vice Mayor Meghan Sahli-Wells, City Councilman Jim Clarke, School Board member Sue Robins, City Manager John Nachbar, Public Works Director Charles Herbertson, Transportation Director Art Ida, and Chamber of Commerce President Steve Rose; as well as student leaders, faculty and staff.

“It is rewarding to see this collaboration between West L.A. College and Culver City come to fruition,” said Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh..

“We found a solution that serves students' needs, that encourages efficient use of clean air busses and is respectful of noise impact on our immediate neighbors.”

The college is served by the Nos. 3 and 4 CulverCityBus lines.

Metro riders can connect to the Culver City buses that come to the college at the Washington/Adams Transit Center, the Westfield Mall, on Motor at Washington, Venice, and Palms, on Pico between Westwood and Beverly Glen, and on Centinela near Sepulveda.
