This is from Monday night’s City Council meeting.]
As long-serving former Congressman Ronald Dellums once observed, “Communities across our nation espouse their individual community values, each holding them in high regard.”
He stated, however, that the best way of determining a community’s’ “true values” is by how they assign funds, which is reflected in their adopted budget.
Tonight, we begin to undertake the most important processes that any elected official must engage in at every level of government, that of developing a budget. A budget that will reflect the goals, aspirations and values of this community.
With this in mind, we pray for continued leadership from our Mayor and Council. We ask that they be guided based on the needs of the community.
While difficult decisions must be made due to unprecedented economic times in our country’s history, we know that they make the best decisions for the purpose of ensuring a brighter tomorrow. We thank them for their commitment and their stewardship of this community.
