The unusually wet weather is taking a toll on the shuttered Dog Park.
For nearly 100 days, the Dog Park has been closed, since the Sept. 28 discovery of the seepage of liquid and the presence of very low concentrations of methane gas, which, the city has been assured, does not constitute a health or safety risk.
On Dec. 7, City Hall estimated the work being done by the oil drilling firm known as PXP, the Plains Exploration & Production Co., would be completed and approved by sometime this month.
However, the recent record rains have slowed the process.
PXP’s latest estimate is that its work will be finished by the second half of the month. Then it will need to be approved by the state agency DOGGR, the state Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources in Sacramento.
