Interim Supt. Patty Jaffe’s much-praised but also abbreviated term is dwindling to a precious few days as the School Board and the hired consulting group soon will separately sift through 20 applications for her successor.
The popular Ms. Jaffe, a 40-year veteran in the District, is about to mark her six-month anniversary and open what probably will be her final month or so
On the day before his fellow School Board members formally elevate Vice President Scott Zeidman to the presidency as he opens his third year, the President-elect said the Board is not bound by a calendar date.
“Twenty is about the number we expected,” Mr. Zeidman said. “We have an excellent chance of finding the best person because the five sets of eyes on the School Board and the six sets from the consulting group,” all former school administrators.
“I don’t know how many will be recommended. Could be anywhere from zero to a dozen. The Board wanted to review all of the applications because while the consultants are experts in the field, there may be something on one of these resumés that catches our attention and not theirs.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Zeidman says that Ms. Jaffe “is doing a spectacular job,” but is likely to retirement from the School District once the next Super is selected.
At Tuesday night’s 7 o’clock School Board meeting, where Steve Gourley will be vacating the President’s chair, the only electoral drama is which of the one-year members will be selected.
