Seven men and seven women from Culver City and the Crenshaw District, comprising the state’s 54th Assembly District, were chosen by popular vote on Sunday to serve as delegates to the 2015 and 216 state Democratic conventions, among other duties.
They are:
Men: Tom Camarella, Max Kanin, Nyabingi Kuti, Fred MacFarlane, Stephen Murray, Mark Ridley-Thomas and Sebastian Ridley-Thomas.
Women: Suzanne De Benedittis, Lilian Carter, Denise Collier. Mary Beth Fielder, Jacquelynn Hawthorne, Celestine Palmer, Michelle Weiner.
Afterward, Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas issued the following statement: “I am gratified by the vote of confidence provided by faithful Democrats in the 54th Assembly District.
“Party members have chosen committed delegate representatives. The election was a good first step toward broadening our party’s Assembly District Delegate leadership and diversity.
“We have more work to do in that regard. I’m prepared and committed to do my part to support the greater inclusion of Latinos and Asian Americans so our district party delegates may more fully reflect our party's members in the District.”
