Re “Making Connections”

When it hit me, my frustration abruptly turned to laughter. I had been making it so hard, and it didn’t have to be… at all.

Many years back, I got in the habit of splitting up my resume. When I included all my corporate credentials, school accolades, charitable endeavors, and personal activities (like running marathons and dancing) on one sheet of paper – or in one conversation – it got out of control. Nobody believed I was telling the truth… or that I was a sane individual.

It has only been a few days since my new website went live, and already I have received hundreds of visits. Judging by the dozens of mostly positive comments, I would call my recent late-night efforts a success.

A little known secret amongst those who know me as a cellist is that I spent ten years in the corporate tech world working with software and websites. Maybe it is the weird math-music connection I have heard discussed for decades. Whatever it is, I truly enjoy computer-speak.

I nearly joined Dennis when he started throwing up over the side of the boat. I must have ingested a liter of salt water in the last hour on that training dive, and my body was not happy.

Teaching 22 students, working in four orchestras, and squeezing in casuals (weddings and parties) on the weekends drove me to the corporate world twelve years ago. I found I wasn’t having time to practice – or to enjoy my cello.

I feel it more every day. It is in the air I breathe, the food I eat, my music. Love is growing all around me.
