Early on Friday morning, the city of Culver City will be honoring the losses experienced during the attack on the World Trade Center Sept. 11, 2001.

The Police Dept. is coordinating with the Fire Dept. a 9.11 Remembrance to be held on Friday morning, starting at 6:30, in front of the Fire Dept. headquarters, 9600 Culver Blvd.

City Manager Mark Scott, who had last night off with no City Council meeting scheduled, returns to work tonight at 7 for Storytime at the Julian Dixon Library, 4975 Overland Ave. Mr. Scott will be the star of Back to School Night, reading stories to children who are younger and older. A craft project will follow. It is not known if Mr. Scott will. Admission is free.

I am writing as a designated representative of Anita Shapiro’s family and close friends that have set up a scholarship at the Culver City High School in her memory.

Responding to concerns raised by residents near the Baldwin Hills oil field, County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas introduced a motion on two days ago calling on County officials to consider amending the ordinance that regulates drilling at the site.

Culver City’s 58th annual Fiesta La Ballona will be held on the weekend of Aug. 28-29-30 in Veterans Memorial Park, at the corner of Culver Boulevard and Overland Avenue.
