Dateline Dayton – For Thanksgiving, our daughter and two of her children arrived from Michigan on Wednesday night. I started Thanksgiving Day with church while Pauline was at home peeling potatoes for our mid-day dinner. Due to scheduling conflicts, that time appeared to be the best option. We still didn’t have Bill, Julie and Madi because they had traveled to Cleveland to celebrate with Julie’s family.

Dateline Dayton – Since today is Thanksgiving Day, with all of the turmoil in our country and the world, you may wonder if there is anything to be thankful for. Dateline Dayton – Yesterday I left for St Charles, IL, to attend the Cash Register Collectors Club meeting and swap meet. My friend Howard traveled with me, as usual. This time we needed to leave a day earlier because the club’s swap meet was early this morning. I took a few items to sell, but I expected little activity. Probably is the wrong attitude.

Dateline Dayton – Recounting the first part of our Caribbean cruise last week, I should have said that we spent Monday on Royal Caribbean’s private island, CocoCay, the Bahamas, not at sea. We found a shady spot beneath a tree, and relaxed the whole time on the island. Even though the water was warm, I only walked through it. Dateline Dayton – You may tire of me being on a soapbox about the need for licensing to have children. All you need do is stop reading this essay. I have been thinking about the kinds of licenses already required: Attorney, accountant, boating, to drive, a car itself, carrying a concealed weapon, for your dog – but not for having a child. Doesn’t that speak well of us?

Dateline Dayton – Last Friday night we met the friends with whom we were going to have dinner at Tony’s restaurant two weeks earlier. However, that was the day Pauline ended up in the hospital. This time we were meeting them at the Dayton Women’s Club for dinner and a bingo fundraiser.
